News Update | Peter G. Schultz, the member of SPS Advisory Board attended the “Tsinghua Global Vision Lecture”
December 12th --- Prof. Peter G. Schultz, the Member of SPS Advisory Board, the Member of National Academy of Sciences of USA , the Member of National Academy of Medicine of USA and the vice chairman and CEO of the Scripps Research Institute, was invited by SPS to visit Tsinghua University and attended the “Tsinghua Global Vision Lecture”.

Prof. Schultz gave a speech on the topic of “Synthesis at the Interface of Chemistry and Biology: From Molecules to Medicines”.

In his speech, Prof. Schultz introduced to Tsinghua teachers and students how to combine biological mechanisms, biomolecules and biological strategies with the tools and principles of chemistry to create molecules with new functions, and to illustrate that both of the complex macromolecular systems (greater than 1 Mio Da) and small molecules (less than 500 Da) are used to regulate and control cells. At the same time, Prof. Schultz described in detail how to expand the new genetic code, increase the new composition of the translation machine, use new codons to synthesize new functional proteins (with new metal ion binding sites), embedded DNA-RNA templates in the genome of Escherichia coli, and a new biological clock to prolong the drug discovery.
